![]() ![]() I would say which version of the game you should buy comes down to how much money you're spending. If you're careful with them, I imagine they could go quite a while without anything breaking. I've had it several more years sense with no more breaking. ![]() It was only one of the bags, and that was maybe after a year of use. Where it concerns the first editions bags, I two other people who have versions of the game and I'm the only one who had the plastic snap break on them. But I may be entirely mistaken on that front. ![]() Similarly, I cannot speak for any rules changes or play differences between editions outside of I think I remember hearing that the new edition carried some of the modules from the Merry Men expansion for the first edition straight into the box. I haven't played the second edition, and as such can't speak to the quality of any of the components. It is of course possible that the game makers will release another expansion that will only be compatible with 2nd edition, so if that’s something that’s important to you, get that one. I say that if you just want to experience the game, see what you can find cheaper 2nd edition, or 1st edition with the expansion (as OP did). I won’t go so far as to call the 2nd edition art terrible (or even bad-it’s fine for what it is), but comparing it to the art the original had, I think it’s a significant downgrade. Like others in this thread, I am not a fan of the changes done to the artwork between editions. And if you like the way cards are drawn in first edition, you could still do that with the cards from 2nd edition (there is no box-insert to make this tri-pile system portable like there is in 1st edition, but it could still easily be done). If you purchase 1st edition and the Merry Men expansion, you will have all of the required components to play the 2nd edition rules. Rules for 2nd Edition are different in that the game is simply 1st edition with the original Merry Men expansion now being base components (and therefore part of the primary rules), and instead of one draw pile with two discard piles that anyone can draw from, you play with just the one facedown draw pile, and players cannot draw from the discard pile. I know it’s a one year-old thread, but this is still the first thing that popped up when I searched for differences in editions, and as you mentioned in your edit, rule changes are not immediately clear, so I did some more reading, and here’s what I found. Found it cheap, £21 for base game and £15 for the expansion I take that as meaning the updated rules are unique to the second edition regardless of how many expansions are added to the 1st edition.ĮDIT 2: I decided to buy the first edition with the expansion. I only have one question that has yet to be answered, and that's what are the updated rules? the BGG page states: "This new edition includes updated rules, as well as expansions". I'm debating whether or not to pay a premium for the first edition + expansions or to put up with the new artwork.ĮDIT: thanks for the replies. Anyway, my question is, besides the included expansions, what has changed from the first edition? Which rules have changed? can the change of rules be applied to the first edition? Has the component quality improved in the second edition? I heard people saying the buttons on the pouches of the first edition would break off easily and am wondering if this has been fixed. ![]() It baffles me why they chose to downgrade the artwork, especially considering the art in the first edition looks really good (in my opinion). However, like many other people have mentioned already, I find the artwork of the second edition really off-putting. This game looks fun and I would like to buy it. r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subreddit.r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games.Game of the Week Calendar Related Sites & Subreddits The simplest use is to bold game names in your comment and add " /u/r2d8 getinfo" at the end of the post, but this post/sub has other features identified.
